Your first day on the job in Hydro. What were your first impressions and expectations?
I started my first day at Hydro by meeting my line manager and the others working in the Asset Management department. After that, I received an orientation about the department and its strategy, and about what my work tasks would be. The day continued with a workshop with current and previous trainees from Norway and other countries, where we were presented with other information, including an update of Hydro's strategy.

What was it like to have a Summer Internship at Hydro?
As a Summer Intern, I was given responsibility from the first day. I worked with true challenges and was allowed to contribute and help make a difference. I had a "buddy" as support, and the threshold to make contact with others in Asset Management and in Corporate Finance was low.

What work tasks did you have?
My work tasks were mainly related to the implementation of a new portfolio management system and financial reporting.

What did you get out of your two months with us?
I learned a lot about asset management, Hydro and aluminium. I met many interesting people and worked with exciting challenges. Being able to work on things that you would otherwise read about in books gives one a completely different understanding, and it provides an advantage in future studies. It was a very valuable experience for me.

Are there any specific experiences that come to mind? What have you learned about work life after your stay with us?
Yes - my first day at work, lunch with the CFO, the presentation of the Q2 results, our meeting with DnBNor. Work is full of exciting possibilities. One must be proactive and seize the opportunities that come.

What impression do you have of Hydro after your stay with us?
Hydro is an organization with talented and friendly people. It is a global business with global opportunities.

What advice would you give to those considering Summer Internship 2012?
Apply! You have nothing to lose, and you have potentially an unforgettable summer in store.
