Your first day on the job in Hydro. What were your first impressions and expectations?
I had certain expectations regarding the people I would meet, my specific work responsibilities and what a workday in Energy would be like. I remember being well received by everyone in the department and I got a brief introduction to what they were working on. Right from my first day, I participated in the department's morning meetings and other regular activities.
What was it like to have a Summer Internship at Hydro?
Having a Summer Internship in Hydro was very exciting. I got to work on tasks of real value to the company and was able to use much of the knowledge I have received from my studies while learning a lot of new things too.
As a Summer Intern, I got to be a part of the department where I worked and participated in all the activities of a normal workday. This meant, among other things, regular meetings, strategy meetings and trips to Hydro's power plants. Despite the fact that my internship in Hydro was in the Portfolio department, I received a good insight into other departments in the company.
What work tasks did you have?
I kept the data in software models updated, which is part of the daily work in the Portfolio section.
What did you get out of your two months with us?
During the two months I was a Summer Intern in Hydro, I got the opportunity to develop myself professionally and got to know many talented and exciting people. The work was challenging and I got a good flavor of what it is like to work in one of Norway's leading industrial companies. In addition, it was exciting to meet summer interns from other universities.
Are there any specific experiences that come to mind? What have you learned about work life after your stay with us?
I learned a lot from being involved in a department and the cooperation between the different departments of Hydro. It was also fun to be able to travel to see Hydro's power plants and meet with Hydro employees who were not part of the day-to-day work at the head office in Oslo. This put my work more in perspective.
Another high point for me was when all the Summer Internship students were invited to lunch with Hydro CFO Jørgen Rostrup. This meeting gave me an insight into all the possibilities that you have in Hydro and we got the opportunity to comment on our experience of the company.
What impression do you have of Hydro after your stay with us?
My impression of Hydro is that it is an incredibly exciting company to work for and a place where you have the opportunity to develop further in many different areas. In Hydro, you get to work with highly skilled colleagues with varied backgrounds. This means that the workday is both inspiring and full of chances to learn new things.
What advice would you give to those considering Summer Internship 2012?
I would recommend anyone considering a Summer Internship in Hydro to go ahead and send in an application. Hydro can offer challenging and educational work and a Summer Internship in Hydro is a great experience for your future.
