In Australia, Hydro is present with primary aluminium production and metal products operations
Nearly all of Hydro’s employees in Australia are working on the company’s site in Kurri Kurri, which is close to Newcastle in New South Wales.
The primary metal plant in Kurri Kurri began operations in 1969. Hydro became owner of the plant through its 2002 acquisition of VAW aluminium AG.
Hydro is also part-owner of the primary aluminium plant Tomago Aluminium Company Pty Limited.
